has an abnormally long partnership track--closer to 11-13 years to get to non-equity partner status, with even more time to get to equity partner. The firm does, however, have a mandatory counsel ‘in between’ role which many folks can stay at for a long time if they don’t desire partnership.” • “Definitely possible to make partner—almost nobody is forced out. Permanent non-partner roles are few, but a few seem to be cropping up in interesting ways. For example, one senior associate created for himself the role of ‘Senior Discovery Counsel,’ and joins all sorts of litigation teams to help with discovery matters. He has fewer business development responsibilities, accordingly, and is more focused on being a utility player and an asset for the firm’s actual lawyering needs.” Pro Bono Commitment • “The firm has a good number of pro bono opportunities and that work is encouraged. The first 50 hours count toward billable hour totals.” • “The firm is extremely committed to pro bono service and highly encourages participation in pro bono activities from every lawyer at the firm. There is a wide variety of pro bono projects to choose from ranging from a few hours to hundreds of hours of service.” • “I wrote an amicus brief on an LGBT issue in the Maryland Court of Appeals that ended up changing the law in Maryland on an important family law issue.” • “Overall the firm puts a decent effort toward pro bono, although the work isn’t very spread out. Some people bill hundreds and hundreds of hours, while others just ignore it. There are plenty of opportunities out there, but not too much pressure to get involved. I got my 50 and split, since there’s no firm-based incentive whatsoever to do more.” Diversity Efforts • “My group has lots of women and female partners; we are a very strong group in large part because of that. The firm leadership, however, needs a lot of improvement in increasing diversity—particularly with respect to minorities— but really across the board.” • “Support for women is excellent, much in part due to the head of the Women at Venable (WAVe) group, but the progress toward increasing racial diversity is severely lacking.” • “The firm has a very clear interest in promoting and high- lighting women. The firm has a group called WAVe (Women at Venable) that meets every month and is all about promoting and building business for women and to help women advance into positions of power at the firm.” • “Associates and partners are given the flexibility of working when and where they need to in order to accommodate their childcare needs.”

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
