mainly at firm cocktail parties and at other in-house events. There is also some socializing out of the office at sporting events because of all the sports leagues we represent.” Associate/Partner Relations • “Partner interaction is excellent. Even as a more junior associate, I felt I had a real opportunity to talk to them and they took into consideration my views and often relied on me as an associate. And as I have gotten more senior, I feel they trust me to run deals completely on my own and will often come to me to ask for assistance on matters. In addition, feedback is generally very helpful and thorough and I feel I’m fully aware of my weaknesses and know what to improve for next time. More clarity for senior associates would be nice, but that is always an issue in the Partnership model.” • “I routinely work closely with partners even though I’m only a first year. The firm encourages associates to ‘shadow’ partners by allowing up to 200 hours of ‘shadow time’ that counts towards the associate’s billable hour requirements but doesn’t get billed to the client. Thus, associates can sit in on meetings where it would otherwise be impractical for billing reasons. I always feel like I can talk to the partners.” • “I feel very supported, and have strong relationships with many partners. There is also an effort to build strong relationships between high-performing female associates and powerful partners.” • “Perhaps I am lucky, but my partner mentors are open, honest, and helpful. They tread the line of being a mentor, but also get to know you personally. I feel very comfortable being myself here.” Hours • “Face-time is not required. So long as you get your work done, you can make your own schedule, and work from home when you want. Groups are more than happy to allow someone to dial-in to team meetings from home and it’s never questioned or challenged.” • “I’m given a good amount of work. I never feel like I’m low on hours, and I think people discount how important it is to always have something to do. There are some long weeks, but that being said, they also are very understanding when you need to do something at night. Face-time is encouraged during the workday, but you can head home whenever you want after 5:30/6; it’s just a preference issue sometimes of where you want to work. They also are good with letting you work from home—it’s just good to clear it in advance.” • “I believe the hours are good. There are periods where you work around the clock, but there are also periods where you can have a good quality of life.” • “This has been a very busy year, so I hope I will not be sustaining the same level of hours across my career. However, these have been mainly due to extremely interesting, self- generated projects, so I am relatively satisfied. There is an effort to redistribute work where appropriate, with serious conversations about what I can and want to give up. It’s definitely done with an eye toward not only what’s good for

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
