As opposed to Beer, wine, and spirits- alcoholic drinks that were known for making one become intoxicated and enter a different state of mind- coffee was the first popular drink to promote clear thinking. It had a different connotation. While alcohol was connected to slowing down and becoming relaxed, coffee is more connected to waking you up, giving you energy, and clearing your mind.

Coffeehouse discussions lead to intellectual exchange, scientific societys, the invention of newspapers and Academic institutions. Tea is from China but became Britain’s national drink. It challenged coffee in many European nations. Coca-Cola is the first soft drink and quickly became the USAs national beverage. Due to the quick grow in popularity of soft drinks in the US, companies started to focus on pushing these products to the community, thus becoming the birth of booming capitalism in the US that made it the universal superpower we know it to be today. Beer in Mesopotamia and Egypt A Stone-Age Brew Humans who migrated from Africa traveled in small, nomadic bands (30 people or so). They would live in skin huts, hunt game, and catch fish, and gather plants while moving from one camp to another. Around 12,000 years ago, humans abandoned the “hunter/gatherer” norm from the paleolithic period and moved on to farming. With the sudden switch from the hunter/gatherer lifestyle to farming, humans began to branch out from water being their only beverage and started to drink beer: a drink derived from barley and wheat. There was no beer before 10,000 BCE, but it was largely widespread throughout the east by 4,000 BCE Mesopotamia - Modern day Iraq? A straw was necessary to drinking beer at that time because there was always debris floating at the top Beer is made from cereal grains(wheat and barley) which were the first cultivated crops. If there was no switch from hunting/gathering to farming, beer would not exist and neither would any other modern drinks.
