government departments, non-government organisations and others hold events to raise awareness and show support for the strategy and its goals. 4)List the contact details of 2 specific local Aboriginal services and in your own wordsdescribe what they specialise in to accommodate people in this community.
4)a)List 2 contributing reasons for disease and ill health experienced by people of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background. One reason for the disease and ill health experienced by people of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds is that the British unknowingly brought diseases that were not present in Australia before they invaded. This had a devastating effect on the bodies and immune systems of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders and the consequences often deadly.Another is that they were not afforded the same access to health facilities until recently. This low level of access to primary health care settings and inadequate government funding contribute to their continuing poor health status.b)Describe the impact on the ability of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to deal with issues involving trauma and illness and what their needs would be.It is inevitable that some Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders are unable to deal with the past traumas that have been inflicted on them, and the current neglect they face every day through the lack of basic services available to them. For over sixty years, non-Indigenous Australians abducted their children, took their land, restrictedtheir access to education and made them slaves. Non-Indigenous Australians tried to make Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders adapt to their way of life. Based on these experiences, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders have no reason to trust non-Indigenous Australians. This transgenerational, unresolved trauma has had an enormous impact on their mental health.
