Narcissistic personality disorder is marked by a lack of empathy which, admittedly I struggle to understand. Although my history of working with addicts has been recent (the past 4 years), while speaking with clients via telephone, I notice a shift in their perceptions suggesting superiority. Each time this has happened, further investigation has evidenced use of some type of amphetamine, normally methamphetamine. In 2014 my husband and I found ourselves in a situation that led us to attempt to help a four-year old little girl. Unbeknownst to us in the beginning, she was diagnosed with reactive attachment disorder 11 months after she came to our home. During that time, my husband’s occupation required him to travel leaving me alone to be the primary caregiver for this child. I observed her manipulate, lie, triangulate, growl, hiss, spit, transform into different personalities,

Last year, this same child (now 7 years old) stabbed her foster mother 36 times and resulted in the mother being in ICU for months. When I was going through it, even though I denied it, seven separate doctors in the course of this journey insisted I was suffering from posttraumatic stress.
