CALGARY’S OLYMPIC BID 3 Importantly, various stakeholders are seen to be supporting the bid including politicians, athletes, and business leaders. However, some people are worried that there may be a sign of desperation concerning the Olympic bid for the city this time. The author is concerned whether this could be because the Calgarians are desperately in need of something they are anticipating or there is something they require to organize themselves other than the issue of the future prices of fossil fuels that much of the city's economy is dependent (Steward, 2018). Equally, the author worries whether the concern is because of the vacant offices that were used by geophysicists and geologists that could be filled by bureaucrats and Olympic organizers. The Calgary bid exploration committee has done their analysis and presented a robust final report to the council that envisioned thousands of jobs and a substantial infusion to the city’s economy in the year to come because of the games. The committee comes up with estimates that hosting another Olympics would cost the city around $4.6 billion. Similarly, there is the assumption that the contributions from the provincial and municipal governments as well as from the international Olympic committee will make a significant contribution in reducing the cost of bidding on and hosting of the games.
