They speed up reactions by providing an alternative pathway of lower activation energy. In this lab, an investigation was brought forward to discover the factor that can affect the enzyme during catalytic activity, but only to a certain degree before observing a steep drop off, as there is a higher concentration of enzymes and not enough substance to bind to the enzymes active site. Enzymes work best at specific ph and anything higher or lower than the desired ph would not affect the rate of reaction in a beneficial matter.
