becoming acclimated to the American culture. Many people do not want to change their cultures just because they are living in a different country than their own. They do no see the benefits of adapting their lifestyle to better fit the American way. They do not see the benefits of merging their own culture with the American culture. Nonetheless, there are some people who do see the benefit in the change of culture. Many people try to make the best of their new life in America by going along with the American lifestyle. In contrast, Bharati Mukherjee in “Two Ways to Belong in America” explains how she feels about her sister not modifying her life to the American culture by saying, “I, for the narrowness of her perspective, her uninvolvement with the mythic depths or the superficial pop culture of this society” (176-77). Mukherjee, herself has taken on the role of an American citizen (175). She has seen the benefit of adapting to the American culture. Many people struggle acclimating themselves to the American culture.
