country is supposed to represent equality, not one race as superior to others. There has been wars and battle to gain this support of all equal races. However, the white men depicted contradict all of the progress and goals that the United States has pushed towards. We are supposed to welcome those immigrants in search for a better life and opportunities. Contrariwise, white people today still feel the need to state that they are not welcome and only come here to freeload.Overall this represents controversial issues today, where the White race has consciously closed our doors to those who have escaped their country to follow the “American Dream”. Furthermore, another aspect that stood out to me from the painting was the little girl clinging onto her mother. The mother is carrying a suitcase, which insinuates that she is being deported from the United States. While the mother is fearful and being pushed away by the Statue of Liberty, her daughter is desperately holding onto her hoping to not be separated. The emotions they portray can be seen in the facial expressions painted on them. The mother is given an extremely fearful and gloomy facial expression, while the daughter portrays an exasperated face. This accurately portrays today’s immigration policies.
