Why are the adult students Sherry teaches motivated to study what they failed to learn when they were younger? - The students are now motivated to learn because it is needed in order to get a job after highschool. Some require to learn basic skills again in order to keep the job that they have because their employers expect them to know simple things which would have been the equivalent requirements of a highschool diploma. They have a healthy fear of failing and they want to get a second chance in education.

4. Why does Sherry call the threat of failure a positive teaching tool? - It is a positive tool because this will help the students in the future even though they might not know it at the time. Students that are feeling threatened that they might fail can help them motivate to do better in school or study harder in order to pass their classes. 5. Why would it take a concerted effort of parents and teachers for Sherry’s suggestion to work? - By having the parents’ support and understanding as to why a student might fail, they can both work together in order to encourage their kids to do better in school. Sometimes, the cooperation of a parent is an important part so that they also know that it is for their child's future and that it is nothing personal. 6. Critical Thinking: Do you feel that the threat of failure would motivate students to do better in school than they would without that threat?
