grade. According to Kirst-Ashman and Hull (2018), “African Americans have been the victims of both institutional and individual racism in ways that have left almost indelible imprints on every man, woman, and child” (p. 484). She had discovered that she was pregnant with her 17-year-old boyfriend of 4 months of dating. As a social worker is it great to show empathy to the situation. “Playing such an essential role, empathy as a means to interpersonal understanding seems essential to know how to begin practical work with clients” (Eriksson & Englander, 2017, p. 607). In the video the social worker did not show any signs of empathy towards the youth’s situation which made the youth dysregulated after meeting with her. Kirst-Ashman and Hull (2018) stated that, “Do not assume that ethnic identity tells you anything about a person’s values or behavior. Within-culture differences are substantial, and two clients from the same culture may have vastly different life experiences” (p. 494). As social worker we have to try to not overgeneralize different cultures. Another skill a social worker can do is more assessing with the client regarding the situation.
