The ethical ramifications of the cultural viewpoints on Ivory is cultural relativism. This theory is based on the moral beliefs and attitudes that is socially approved in people of their own culture. Even though the beliefs may seem wrong, it is right if the culture allows it and practices it. Most people view ivory as a product that should not be available for the people to buy, because it requires the killing of endangered elephants; however, the people of China views it differently. They believe that the elephants are happy to devote their tusk/ivory to them for the use of crafting buddha. Obtaining the craft of ivory is a tradition. It is important to the people of China because it is considered a precious material, especially when beautiful and elaborate art is being crafted on it.
