world works. Matilda was lucky to have a roof over her head, but did have to learn how to do things on her own. The family system in “Matilda” is not a good one at all. The parents do not care about Matilda or what she does. They would be considered a neglectful parent. Matilda had to tend to herself for just about everything. Her parents did not care about her education either. They actually thought college would be a waste of time. Nowadays most jobs require some type of college education. It is how the world works, education is highly important. Parents like Matilda’s in today’s world would most likely have her taken away by child services and put in a foster home. Family is a system that supports each other. It can be different to many people, but everyone needs support at a young age, let alone when they are older. Matilda does not get and of this, the only support she has is herself and her teacher Ms. Honey. Plus her father being a criminal does not help. There are many fathers who end up in jail. It is on the news sometimes where a father got involved with the wrong people and ended up serving time in prison. The mother and children in this situation are usually devastated. In Matilda’s case, she tells her dad everything he is doing is illegal, but he does not listen. He is even oblivious to the cops sitting outside his own house scoping. This is called being in denial. In the end Matilda does get away from this unhealthy family by being adopted by Ms. Honey. Matilda’s brother is a bad example of a brother. Brothers are usually protective of their younger sister, but in this movie he is not. He is just like his parents and does not pay attention to anything. He is not nearly as smart as Matilda. He is Matilda’s family, but does not act like it. In reality most brothers act completely different. Most show some kind of caring. A family structure
Matilda’s child Developmentis very important and Matilda’s is not structured properly. They need more of a foundation to communicate. Communication is very important in any relationship. Without communication someone might as well say there is no relationship. In Matilda’s situation there is barely any communication with neither her parents nor her brother. This can cause an unhealthy problem. Matilda had no one to talk to except her teacher when there was a problem. A child is supposed to be able to rely on his or her parents to be there. When the parents are not there it can cause a delay in development. It can cause problem with opening up to people, or even the feeling of being left. Matilda’s parents and brother would be the cause if that had happened. That is why family is so important. Some parents never believe their children because the child mistakes what they are saying as fantasy. In Matilda’s case it is not fantasies she has, but the actual truth. She is actually correct with everything she tells her parents, but they do not believe her. Her parents believe they know everything. In the movie they father says (1996), “I’m smart; you’re dumb.
