Ovid uses Orpheus to show the power of poetry and the true effects that the art can have on the physical world and the Gods. For example, when Orpheus uses poetry in book ten asking to bring back his wife Eurydice, the Gods listen, but due to human error Eurydice has to stay in the underworld. When, Orpheus uses he poetry has almost the powers of the Gods as he gains the ability to get the Gods to do what he wants. Similarly, later in the poem Orpheus sings about Propeotides prostitution and the sins that they are

Not even the Gods can ignore the power of poetry, as they too have to listen and subside to the demands of the poetry. Poetry has an immortalizing effect on the Gods, as Ovid’s poetry has had an immortalizing effect on people for so many years. Finally, the effects of poetry save Orpheus when the Thracian women are attacking him.
