logical models, improved data warehousing and privacy data and improved sophistication of logical and physical architectures. The used Zachman’s model to create a “living architecture”; an architecture that is constantly being reformed and adapted to the changing industry trends ( Ts., n.d.) . Veterans Administration The Veterans Administration faced several problems that the Zachman framework helped solve. The organization had an outdated IT infrastructure as well as increasing complexity of services and processes administered by the administration to veterans. By Identifying, in a high level of detail, the
5 Running Head: ZACHMAN FRAMEWORK applications, processes and relationships within the hierarchy of the organization, the VA was able to standardize and modernize the organization. The organization used the Zachman framework as a tool to adapt to the growing needs of Veterans as well as adapt to the changing technological landscape (Principi, A. J.,2001, August). IBM Finland A final example of the Zachman framework is a case study for a department within IBM Finland used it in one department at IBM Finland. In this example IBM Finland did not actually implement the Zachman framework, but rather hired a research group to conduct a study on how it could be employed within the department. The research group documented work products to capture every business artifact and placed them within cells in rows and columns to help define the organization. It should be noted that not all the work products were able to be mapped to the Zachman Framework. It necessary to modify some of the mapping from Zachman’s framework in order to apply the framework successfully to the company. Ultimately, the core principles were left untouched and 75% of all the business artifacts were able to be successfully mapped using the Zachman’s framework. The case study proved to be an overall success in the joint theory crafting venture with IBM Finland ( IOS Press, 2005).
