HW 10 IE5411 Sunny Ahmed Other tools that I learnt in class like creating a network path for projects, analyzing the critical paths to make sure that project is on time, scheduling tasks and making good use of a Gantt chart to track progress are slowly proving beneficial for me. I am still sometimes behind on some projects but I must say I am doing better than before. Money management has never been my strength and with a big tuition bill, for my master’s degree, lurking over my head I had to do something about it. I decided to break it down into months similar to a project cost breakdown and planned it how I should be allocating my money so that I don’t fall short of cash any month. It has been only 2 months since I am following it and I am confident that this approach will be extremely successful. Risk management is another section that earned a lot of value in my eyes. Having contingency plans in place makes risk taking much easier and me not being a natural risk taker it really comforts me when I try out new ideas in life. During the class project I found the best use of Risk Management as we had problems to schedule a speaker for the seminar. I worked with my team to put up a presentation of our own just in case we could not get someone to speak at the seminar. This not only acted as a contingency plan but also helped us learn a lot about Lean manufacturing in the process. It also taught me how one task can prove to be so critical for the outcome of the entire project. Project closure was a new concept to me and I started making notes of what I learnt every time I finish a project now. I think it is a very good habit to have. I had most fun in this class while doing the case studies. Sometimes I could relate so much with my professional life whereas at times I was completely amazed by the scenarios that people fall in while doing a project. It gave me a perception on how bigger companies operate, how difficult and complicated things can become in a project. I felt a connection of things taught in class and the real world while doing these case studies. The company I work for only has one Electrical Engineer and that is me, so the last three years I have been doing most of the projects on my own. Thus a team project was kind of a good change for me. We had very different types of people working together with ideas which were sometimes at the opposite ends of the spectrum. Eventually we did manage to finish the project and meet the deliverables with success. Throughout the project we used tools like responsibility matrix, work break 2

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
