The medical staff leadership should be appointed by and accountable to the governing board because  following any rigorous procedure each physician’s credentials, including any recent performance, are  reviewed by several medical staff review bodies that make a recommendation to the governing board.  The governing board is responsible for granting privileges to participate in the physician organization  and to provide specific treatment within his or her training experience and the capabilities of the HCO  (White, 187). Clinical knowledge and skill are required, but detailed clinical evaluation should occur in  specialty review. The opinion of peer specialists should be sought when appropriate. Like other board
