Acid/Base reactions that form a gas: (table 4.4) - Carbonates react with acids to form carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) - Sulfites react with acids to form Sulphur dioxide (SO 2 ) - Sulfides (S-2) react with acids to form hydrogen disulfide (H 2 S) 4.5 Oxidation and Reduction (redox) reactions: involve transfer of electrons between chemical species or a change in oxidation # Oxidation: loss of electrons (LEO). Metals tend to lose electrons Reduction: gain of electrons (GER). Non-metals tend to gain electrons - The oxidation # is the charge on any atom (see table 4.5) - Redox reactions are described in terms of half reactions. One half reaction describes the oxidation part and the other the reduction part. Oxidation and reduction always happen simultaneously.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
