Mechanical engineers design, develop, build, and test mechanical and thermal sensors and devices, including tools, engines, and machines. Mechanical engineers generally work in offices. They may occasionally visit worksites where a problem or piece of equipment needs their personal attention. Mechanical engineers work mostly in engineering services, research and development, and manufacturing. The undergraduate Mechanical Engineering curriculum includes a foundation of mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Engineering courses in fundamental areas constitute much of the remaining curriculum. Mechanical Engineering Student Outcomes: An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering. An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility. An ability to communicate effectively and etc. The median annual wage for mechanical engineers was $83,590. Employment of mechanical engineers is projected to grow 5 percent from 2014 to 2024. The number of jobs available are 277,500. Graduates of the program will have the professional and scientific education that allows them to be successful as career engineers and in the most demanding graduate programs. Specifically, they will be able to function in professional environments in industry, government, and academia applying and building upon engineering science knowledge, problem-solving skills, and communication skills; remain current with technology and contemporary scientific and societal issues, and consequently improve skills and knowledge through a lifelong process of learning. Electrical Engineering: Electrical engineers design, develop, test, and supervise the manufacturing of electrical equipment, such as electric motors, radar and navigation systems, communications systems, and power generation equipment.
