Causing himself to receive the back end of the beam of light Sunlight is a pure source of good, while darkness can symbolize evil. Good versus evil. Bad versus good. The girl is described to have darker features, much more so than Bitzer possesses. When the sun shines upon Sissy it illuminates herself and all of her features. When the sun is shines upon the boy, his already light features battle with the light and take away his color. Turning him into as if all life was gone from him. Dickens implies that the sun, when shown upon darkness can bring the beauty out of something, as in the case of Sissy. But when light is turned into an already light object, it seems almost too much for one thing and all color and life is and can be taken away
