2.Describe what you think was the most compelling concern raised by Noble in his article (2-3 sentences). Then state the argumentmade by Noble that you found least convincing. technological change was the numerical control system put into place by the Air Force. While containerization had a limited effect on dockworkers, the numerical control systems affected the entirety of the metalworks manufacturing world. The numerical control system replaced a majority of skilled manufacturing jobs and forced contracted manufacturers to adopt the new innovation.(343,344). It is understandable why the Air Force would need such a precise technology; it very accurately produces goods which previously had the potential to be marred by human error. The change in how the metalworks industry lead to systematic unemployment, because the metalworkers were no longer needed to create the goods. Technological and engineering advancements will benefit some more than others. In both cases the military advancements and improvements spilled negative impacts onto the American economy. Noble points to the need for democratic control of these technologies. He argues that technological advancements made by the military need to be examined as to the exact impacts they will make and whether as a country we want to take on those changes. Noble brings out many great questions concerning the military’s impact on innovation. The military’s advancements in technology are exciting and terrifying at the same time.
