Major NAACP advocate and lawyer in the Brown V Board Of Education Thurgood Marshall was named the 96 th Supreme Court justice but more importantly the first African American justice in 1967.President of the NAACP Kivie Kaplan from 1966 to 1975 led the NAACP to protect African Americans from the abuse of illegal drugs. In 1990 Myrlie Evers-Williams (widow of Medgar Evers) became the third woman to chair the NAACP. In 2000 the NAACP adocated for African Americans to go out and let their voice be heard via voting. According to the NAACP site their efforts led to 1 million more votes in African Americans than in the previous election. 8 Justice Statics the Incarcerations among blacks trumps over the incarcerations of whites and Hispanics. “In Louisiana, a state with the highest incarceration rate in the country, where African American men comprise 70% of its population of incarcerated persons” Most incarcerations of blacks are for the illegal use of Marijuana. The NAACP is fighting today for the release of innocent African Americans who’ve been wrongfully accused or just smoking weed. In which they support the legalization of recreational marijuana. However the current president claims that the NAACP is different in values meaning its more conservative in values, opinions while Black Lives Matter appeals to a younger liberal audience and tend to use less peaceful methods of protest than the NAACP but they both groups are going for the same goal, “democracy” [ NAACP](site) In conclusion, the NAACP protected African Americans throughout its existing by protecting their civil rights through the judicial system. In times of trouble the NAACP gave African Americans and white progressive strength to obtain civl rights for all people of different races. The world would be extremely different if Brown V Board of Education took place or if
