me. Because the buildings are so much bigger that the other buildings around them they have no man-made structures that really block the natural light from the sun. In my opinion this also illuminates the 9/11 memorial for most of the day because it is ground level and the reflection of the light really brightens that area where if it wasn’t for the 4 buildings it wouldn’t be as illuminated because most of its light would be blocked by the surrounding buildings. In the reading this week, the book says: “Perhaps the most powerful element in our perception of architecture is light. (p.85)”. Also, it says: “The perception of textures is dependent upon the quality of light falling on the building. Moreover, light creates psychological responses and has a strong physiological effect (p.85)”. Proportion: “The mind also seeks out mathematical and geometrical relationships, or proportions, in patterns (p.71)”. I think these buildings are proportioned very well. I think they all fit very well into each other and into the environment that is around them on the tip of Lower Manhattan. While their scale is much larger than the other buildings that surround them in Lower Manhattan, they are perfectly proportioned to the other buildings and the landscape. When it comes to the project its self the 4 buildings and the 9/11 memorial, the proportions look very geometrically pleasing so they basically look like they fit together and they also are mathematically pleasing because there is not a part of the project that sticks out because of the size or its proportions. When you look at this project you don’t want to see the 4 buildings and only the 4 buildings you want to also be reminded of 9/11 and the Memorial. I feel like the Memorial is not lost in the project which is key.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
