LOCATION DECISIONS (PLG1)Seven major factors of location decisionsBefore the location decision could be made, many factors must be taken into consideration. There are seven major factors of location decisions, productivity, foreign exchange, culture, cost, and proximity to markets, suppliers, and competitors (Heizer, Render,& Munson., 2016). Every factors has its importance’s to the company who is trying to locate a place for its business. ProductivityLabour productivity, is the availability of labour that the company required in the skills they required (Business case studies., n.d). Using labour cost as an example, the advantages of hiring an employee with a low wages allows to help the company to reduce labour cost. However on the other end, they might be poor educated, or with poor work habits. This will places the company in a disadvantage stage as the labour cost per unit is not optimum (Heizer, Render, & Munson., 2016).Foreign exchangeFor a big chain like McDonalds, they have many stores around the world. Their headquarter is in United States of America which deals with US dollars. Thus when they opentheir chain in other country for example Singapore, they might face unfavourable exchange rates which may negate any savings (Heizer, Render, & Munson., 2016). On the other end, they can take advantage of a particularly favourable exchange rate by moving or sending out to another country (Heizer, Render, & Munson., 2016).CultureCulture difference may differ from country to country, region to region, and small town to city. The advantage part will be exposing more towards other culture, however the disadvantage is cultural variations reliability by employees and suppliers cause a difference inproduction and conveyance plans (Heizer, Render, & Munson., 2016).
