2 businesspeople. Some errors which bothers the most, are classified as: status-marking, very serious, and serious. Status-marking errors will present the writer as belonging to a lower social status. These errors are nonstandard verb forms, lack of subject-verb agreement, double negatives, and object pronoun as subject. In Business communication course, the students were given five different pieces of written communication. The instructor assessed students by minimal marking and highlighted the mistakes without correction. The students corrected all the errors within a week and earned maximum marks. The other approach, in a Marketing course, is a set of exercises that help students to begin their revising efforts at early idea generation stage of writing. Finding the direction of writing is important, as some students try to write in one sitting. They write whatever comes to their mind whether the idea is good or not. This will lead to sloppy writings and unclear thesis. The “Positioning Possibilities” (P2) strategy helps students to think about possible ways they might focus, or position, their writing at early stages.P2 enables students to revise at the idea generation stage. In the Marketing discipline, the term “positioning” refers to the place a product occupies in the consumer’s mind relative to the competition. During class, the Professor uses this analogy: similar to marketer's strategy, the writer’s strategy is to establish the place the writing holds in the readers’ minds. P2 suggests the idea that revision occurs throughout all phases of writing. Students writing down two positioning ideas for their writing assignment on two different index cards. This activity will be repeated in two to three sessions. The students will revise the previous positioning attempts and write two new ideas. At the end of the sessions, students will have 2-4 revised positioning ideas for at least once and they will have various ideas to select their direction of assignment. To sum up, these two approaches in two disciplines help in building skills, motivation, and practice opportunities in revision. It helps students to consider larger issues such as purpose, audience, and the image the writing projects to the reader.
