Make sure to include an explanation about why it is important to stay within the guidelines for fat intake and why healthy fats are beneficial. I replaced most of my fried foods, refined starches, and fatty meats. It is important to limit saturated fats and getting healthy unsaturated fats instead. In a study that I read, elevated intake of saturated fats like trans-fat is linked to an increased likelihood for mortality (Wang et al., 2016). At my maximum capacity, I should only be eating 984 calories of fat a day. It is important to limit your intake of bad fats because of their overall effect on cardiovascular health and plaque buildup in the vasculature of our bodies. Healthy fats like omega-3 are beneficial because they provide a boost in energy and maintain healthy brain function that we need to sustain a healthy lifestyle. As far as other age ranges go, children do need more fats because of their constant growth. As a general statement, it is always recommended that people stay within the 20-35% calorie intake from fat (Grosvenor & Smolin, 2015). As a final statement, I know that I will be looking more at labels than I have before. This section has helped me understand food labels to an extent as to where I will be watching out for my daily intake of certain fats, and trying to steer clear from specific ingredients that may raise my bad cholesterol levels.
