4) Your friend, Kimo, says that when a compass is taken across the equator, it turns around and points in the opposite direction. Your other friend, Lani, says this in not true, that southern- hemisphere types use the south pole of the compass to find direction. You’re on; what do you say? The North end of a compass needle will always follow along in the direction of the Earth’s magnetic field lines. In the southern hemisphere, the field lines are still “running” from South to North, so the compass needle will still point towards the North of the Earth . 5) A strong magnet attracts a paper clip to itself with a certain force. Does the paper clip exert a force on the strong magnet? If not, why not? If so, how does this force compare to the force the magnet is exerting on it? Explain. Yes, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. 6) A magnetic field can deflect a beam of electrons, but it cannot do work on the electrons to speed them up. Why not? The force that a magnetic field exerts on a beam of electrons is always acting perpendicular to the beam and causes the electrons to move in a circle which means, the speed remains the same and the electrons gain no additional kinetic energy. 7) What is the primary difference between an electric motor and an electric generator ?

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
