Workplace Health and Safety Act– this act protects and provides authority to employees to refugee workplace hazards without proper equipment and training. For prevention of the workers safety, the federal government has established a workplace hazardous material information system (WHMIS 2015) that provides details related to signs and symbols for workplace hazards and safety procedures.Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom, 1982– this act provides right to equality to every worker. The act provides fundamental and equal rights for instance freedom of religion, assembly and expression.
Running Head: GROUP ASSIGNMENT ONE (1)3.Describe some major initiatives that the organization has taken to position itself as leader in promoting workplace diversity.Some major initiatives that the Ontario Colleges of Trade has taken to position itself as a leader in promoting workplace diversity are:Operation of Colleges-The Board of Governors is made up of 21 members: four from each of the four divisional boards, four members representing the public, and one representative of the colleges of applied arts and technology. The Divisional Boards are comprised of 20 members – a chair and four members on each of the sector boards: Construction, Industrial, Motive power, and Service, and numerous trade boards under each division. Trade Boards are composed of equal numbers of members that are employees and employers and include representatives from unionized and non-unionized workplaces. The selection of the board members considers the diversity and geography of Ontario’s population including English and French linguistic duality, gender balance, employee and employer representation, as well as unions and non-unions and small and large businesses.The website of the Ontario Colleges of Tradehas allocated a page specifically to showcase diverse group of employees and members base to the public. In the video it can be seen employees consisting of both genders, and individuals of different races and color. Also, on that same diversity page, there are links that can help and educate potential members seeking to be regulated in their trades. Specifically, there are useful links directed towards women, new canadainsand aboriginal people.
