The LinkedIn Audience LinkedIn is designed for businesses and individuals alike. Members can share updates on themselves, their industry, and their networks, as well as search and connect with others who have similar interests, have studied in the same institutions, or have worked together previously. There are six key segments for the LinkedIn audience: 1. Professionals seeking to extend their professional networks 2. Job seekers 3. Students 4. Recruiters 5. Companies 6. Not-for-profit associations LinkedIn is actually more popular than Twitter in some geographies; the latest data shows a higher proportion of United States adults on the internet have used LinkedIn than have used Twitter. LinkedIn is a valuable platform for brands that want to reach its highly educated, professional audience. Here are a few of the key facts to note: f There are more than 7 million LinkedIn profiles in Australia and over 400 million profiles worldwide;

In Australia: f 28 percent of social networkers maintain a LinkedIn profile (35 percent of males and 21 percent of females); f 34 percent of social networkers aged 30-39 maintain a LinkedIn profile compared to 12 percent of 65+ year old social networkers and 23 percent of 18-29 year old social networkers; f 13 percent of social networkers who deleted a social media channel in the past year deleted their LinkedIn profile; f Social networkers visit LinkedIn an average of 9 times per week; and f The average time spent on LinkedIn is 8.4 minutes per visit. The Instagram Audience Instagram launched in October 2010 and two months later had established a community of 1 million users. Usage and spread of the platform has risen rapidly ever since. Instagram was initially designed for individuals, however the network has fast become a highly successful network for organisations as well. Here are some of the top statistics on Instagram users: f Instagram has more than 400 million monthly active users; f Over 75% of the Instagram community is located outside the United States; f Instagram users have shared more than 40 billion photos; f Instagram users post 3.5 billion ‘likes’ daily; f Instagram users share more than 80 million photos per day; and f Advertisers can reach a large audience quickly: Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream used Instagram to reach 9.8 million people in the United States aged 18–35 in eight days.
