If you plan your dinner well in advance, you may be able to get a little fancy and freeze berries, herbs, and flowers in ice cubes. It would be a good idea to prepare some water with lemon on the side as well. Beer for a romantic dinner, is not suggested. Beer is a more casual beverage, reserved for sporting events and casual hangouts. This is a more sophisticated event. Prepare the appetizers earlier in the day, especially if they are cold appetizers such as shrimp cocktail, deviled eggs, or bruschetta. You could even prepare the deviled eggs and shrimp the night before the dinner. Prepare some home-made guacamole, or simply purchase it, earlier in the day and serve it with a small bowl of tortilla chips. A cheese, fresh fruit and vegetable platter could be easily prepared the night before as well.

Or, it could be something that could be partially prepared a couple days ahead of time and will take less than an hour to complete. This allows the host to fully participate in the evening with their spouse and not in the kitchen all evening. Sautéed chicken and vegetables are a good choice for a romantic dinner at home. Chicken is a dish that you can wash and season/marinate in advance so that it will not take much time to prepare on the evening of the dinner.
