De ș i este utilizat la scar ă larg ă , constructul de rezilien ță familial ă genereaz ă înc ă dezbateri asupra modului de conceptualizare ș i de m ă surare. Cercet ă rile ini ț iale asupra rezilien ț ei au inclus copiii ș i au conceptualizat termenul ca fiind o calitate a copilului de a reu ș i în via ță în fa ț a maltrat ă rii, iar mai târziu au fost extinse la sistemele familiei nucleare, a familiei extinse ș i chiar la comunitatea întreag ă (Butler 1997). Din p ă cate, rela ț iile ș i pattern-urile de cauzalitate dintre individ, familie ș i comunitate nu sunt clare - ele apar ca independente ș i interdependente ș i complementare unele pentru celelalte.
