However, it takes both the Lawyer and Everett a while to build up the strength and courage to stand up to Bartleby and Super Goat Man. They both needed something significant that would push them past their accepting limits. The lawyer finally decided to confront Bartleby when he was locked out of his office on a Sunday morning and found out that he had been sleeping in there. Yet, his confrontation with Bartleby was still much more polite and helpful compared to Everett’s. The lawyer told him, “The time has come; you must quit this place; I am sorry for you; here is money; but you must go” (Melville 341)” However, Bartleby refused and remained just the same. This eventually led the Lawyer to take drastic measures. He packed up and moved his office. If it hadn’t been for Bartleby, this would have never happened, for the lawyer is a simple man and does not like change. Bordeaux 6 described his reaction as, “The poison of bitterness leached into my bloodstream. I don’t know why, but I find that totally disgusting” (Lethem 421). He said it was his history with Super Goat Man that triggered all of his resentment, but he still did not know what specifically irritated him. Until he found himself at diner, impulsively ruining his career. It was at that moment when he realized all his bitterness originated from, “his own father’s susceptibility to the notion of a hero” (Lethem 423). Both the lawyer and Everett were driven past the point of no return. Bartleby and Super Goat Man had more influence on the two of them then they could handle alone. In the end, both the Lawyer and Everett take different approaches when dealing with Bartleby and Super Goat Man, however both of their actions end up altering their lives in some way or another. Neither of them could have predicting how life changing these encounters would become. Nonetheless, when someone has made such a large impact on ones life, such as Bartleby and Super Goat Man had, it becomes a difficult task to rid of that person completely. Regardless whether the individual’s impact was wanted or not, it was a struggle for both the Lawyer and Everett to let go without putting in their last final words. Overall, both the lawyer and Everett portray what its like to have their lives interrupted by an unexpected visitor.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
