The opioid education program should include: identifying risks factors of opioid, signs and symptoms of opioid overdose, non pharmalogical method and non-opioid analgesics for pain management, such as NSAIDs, using adjuvant medications, teaching patient how store and dispose opioid by following FDA guidelines. Plus, when administering opioid medication, nurses should assess patient’s knowledge about opioid to provide effective teaching. Hospitals can collaborate with local stakeholders to expand opioid education to community, not only limited in acute care setting, so everyone will have more knowledge of opioid.
