Amy was putting away the supplies that were delivered to the office today. She was then called away after she had begun to assist someone in one of the patient rooms. When I walked by the supply room I noticed she had left the door open and unattended. Sitting there on top of one of the boxes was a box of syringes we use in the office. They were not secured and anyone could have walked by and picked them up. I immediately closed the supply room door and went to find Amy. I reminded her of the necessity to keep all needles and syringes in a locked secure place at all times. Patient did have access to this area and it could have led to a serious situation if someone had gotten ahold of the syringes.
