Why is it necessary for health workers to use and understand accepted health terminology to describe the normal structure, function and location of the major body systems? Health workers need to be able to use accepted terminology for several reasons: Nurses, doctors, and pharmacists went to different schools and need to be able to effectively communicate with each other without ambiguity and confusion Imprecise terminology can lead to confusion or incorrect assumptions. Many specialists and members of the health care team will process the paperwork of a single patient during a single hospital stay. It is imperative that they all understand what the true situation is. Some terms are simply not acceptable anymore. For example, it is not correct to refer to someone as "mentally retarded" anymore. It is not acceptable to refer to homosexuality as a "disease" anymore. This has important implications for patient perceptions and treatment options. 2.
