Cases and examples reflecting quality care, efficiency and healthy work environments Module 2: Organizational Approaches to Quality Improvement - This module introduces critical strategies for process improvement, including the industrial engineering principles behind “lean” and “6- Sigma” methodologies, High Reliability Organizations and High Performance Work Systems. It sets the stage for lessons on improvement project management and provides critical big-picture understanding of current improvement methods. Content includes: 1. High reliability organizations 2. Principles of High Performance Work Systems 3. High Performing Healthcare Systems 4. Lean and 6-Sigma 5. The 8 wastes in organizations 6. Cases and examples reflecting quality care, efficiency and healthy work environments Module 3: Quality Improvement Processes: PDSA & DMAIC In this module you’ll be given an overview of quality improvement approaches drawn from the Lean and 6 Sigma tools kits. This will include a review of the Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle and the Design-Measure- Analyze-Improve-Control approach to continual improvement. Overall, you will understand how to systematically approach quality improvement initiatives in a health care setting. Special consideration will be given to the interrelated goals of quality care, efficiency, and healthy work environment. Content
