Bazar stores’ sales increased by 8% and the loss before tax decreased from 65.3 crore to 44.7 crore. Tesco is expanding into Hyderabad and is planning to open up stores in state of Karnataka and Maharashtra as part of its 200 stores plan. It plans to use multi-format stores with different sizes to accommodate the population accordingly. Majority of the stores would be 8000-10000sq feet as stated by Trent managing director. Furthermore it’s primary focus is on fresh food as because of leading footfall drive.

TESCO’S FAILURE IN USA Tesco failed in the United States because of the following reasons: Their choice of locations was one of the biggest mistakes they committed. Their small grocery stores which were located near train stations and underground subway hubs were the most profitable. However, in US, people rarely use trains or subways. Thus, they lost a huge chunk of their business. Secondly their strategy was to open small stores and place them within walking distance to any residential area. But people in US drive to get their groceries which reduces the needs for mini markets. Also, the area they choice to open their stores were not apt, they should have opened in metropolitan areas rather than opening in areas like California and Nevada. They should have avoided these mistakes by learning from their previous mistakes, they were not doing well in the first branches, yet they kept on expanding and opening other locations without modifying their strategy or analysing why the first stores were not successful. Their model and strategy could intertwine better with the lifestyle of a New Yorker or someone who’s from Chicago or Washington D.C as. They are very similar to the U.K. especially London.
