5m naoh sodium hydroxide base in a chemplate cavity

This preview shows page 1 - 2 out of 2 pages.

Place 2 drops of 0.5M NaOH, sodium hydroxide base, in a chemplate cavity. Test with Litmus paper (dip the paper in the liquid and take it out). Color blue LP _________ Color Red LP ____ b. Place 2 drops of phenolphthalein liquid on the acid. Record the color ______________ 3. THE PRODUCTION AND COLLECTION OF HYDROGEN Attach a rubber tube to the gas collecting cap from the chemplate. Place 2 pieces of zinc metal in a cavity. Add 15 drops of 6M HCl to cover the zinc and quickly cover the cavity with cap and tube. Use an inverted test tube to collect the gas (see the picture). After 3 minutes, remove the test tube from the hose, keep the opening down. Take a burning splint and put it at the mouth of the test tube. Record the effect of the flame on hydrogen gas in the test tube. _________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________ 4. THE EFFECT OF ACIDS ON CARBONATES Take 15 drops of lime water and put it in a clean cavity. Take 2 chips of calcium carbonate (white rock) and put it in the cavity beside it. Add 15 drops of 6M HCl on top of the calcium carbonate and cover cap and hose (look at picture). Leave the hose in the water for 30 seconds. Observe the effect of the bubbles on the lime water. This reaction is typical of the effects of acids on compounds which are carbonates. ________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Answers

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
