An Alabama state statute provides that “a suit may be brought in any county in which the defendant resides, or in the county in which the plaintiff resides if the defendant is served in that county, or in any county where the cause of action arose.” While in the Jiffy Mart, the defendant’s store in Jefferson County, Alabama, Mr. Clue, the plaintiff, slipped on some standing water on the floor coming from a leaking roof. Mr. Clue is a resident of Sumter County, Alabama, and Jiffy Mart is considered a resident of Choctaw County, Alabama, where its headquarters, registered agent, and primary business operations are located. Under the Alabama statute, the plaintiff in this case may bring the suit in: a. Jefferson County, Sumter County, and Choctaw County. b. Sumter County if Defendant is served while in Sumter County, and Jefferson County. c. any county in the state of Alabama. d. Jefferson County only.
