They could see what was making societies successful and where others where failing. Based from this gathered information the military could make decisions on where they needed to focus and strategize to help societies out. In an article, I found about NSA data mining stated, “The concept behind the NSA's data-mining operation is that this digital information can be analyzed to establish connections between people, and these links can generate investigative leads. But in order to examine data, it has to be collected—from everyone. As the data-mining saying goes: To find a needle in a haystack, you first need to build a haystack” (Pappalardo, 2015). From there they sort through the gathered information and it is said that only three percent of it is tagged when it is created in the data universe.
