INTEGRATING UAS INTO THE NAS 4 Program Outcomes to be Addressed Critical Thinking The student will show evidence of knowledge at a synthesis level to define and solve problems within professional and personal environments ” (ERAU, 2017, pp. 1). Critical thinking is ensuring that the student understands the topic and able to analyze the topic. The student expects to use material that is technically sound that is aimed to reduce the barriers related to the overall topic. This paper on UAS into the NAS will exemplify critical thinking by incorporating current NextGEN programs that are reshaping the NAS today; ADS-B, DataComm, ERAM (Enroute Automation Modernization), TMAR (Terminal Automation Modernization Replacement), NVS (NAS Voice System), SWIM (System Wide Information Management) and how these programs will help with the project. Other information that will prove critical thinking in this paper are what is currently being done the FAA, DOT, and NASA. C ritical thinking support will be pulled from the FAA’s NextGen Implementation Plan from the FAA website. The NextGEN Implementation Plan is a PDF file located in the Performance Snapshots in the NextGEN page of the FAA website. Another source deriving from the FAA website is the Integration of Civil UAS in the NAS Roadmap, a PDF provided by the media page.
INTEGRATING UAS INTO THE NAS 5 Quantitative Reasoning The student will show evidence of the use of digitally-enabled technology & analysis techniques to interpret data for the purpose of drawing valid conclusions and solving associated problems ” (ERAU, 2017, pp. 2). Quantitative reasoning is providing proof to ideas using different sources of content to support ideas and to help solve problems associated with the overall topic. This paper will demonstrate quantitative reasoning by showing statistical data of unmanned and manned accidents and incidents, data on how many unmanned pilots there are, and statistics on how the Military fly their UAS in the NAS. The student expects to find resourceful information that will provide evidence to show quantitative reasoning. The sources will come from the NASA website from the Aeronautics tab, Armstrong Research Center, Armstrong’s Programs and Projects, in which will lead into UAS in the NAS. This source is a web page on the NASA website, updated in 2017 and edited by Yvonne Gibbs. Information Literacy The student will show evidence of meaningful research, including gathering information from primary and secondary sources and incorporating and documenting source material in their writing ” (ERAU, 2017, pp. 3).
