African-American civil rights advocates achieve their political goals by employing the artists and writers of their culture to work for the goals of civil rights and equality. The use of the African-American culture brought attention to a disenfranchised segment of the American population. 5. The economic downturn of the Great Depression led to the end of the Harlem Renaissance and the departure of Harlem's prominent writers. The increased economic tension of the Depression caused black leaders to shift their focus from arts and culture to the financial and social issues of the time. 6. The Harlem Renaissance has impacted all Americans both during the movement and present day because it had an i nfluence on later black writers and helped to ease the way for the publication of works by black authors. The artistic and political movements live on in American culture in the form of new musical expression and award-winning writing.
