Reasons for the existence of supranationalist

This preview shows page 3 - 4 out of 4 pages.

-reasons for the existence of supranationalist organizations -money/economics (MAJORITY BASED ON THIS) -safety/defense (more important) (UN) -cultural commonality (Arab league) Hell load of oddballs -G, G7, etc…they aren’t legit like the others, they don’t have a written set of roles. States don’t have to give up any sovereignty (g8, g20, nuke club, BRIC-britain, Russia, and china) economics is the most imp reason that countries get together to play in a bigger country club. Biggest motivator is also economics Video 3 why work together: economics// -number 1 reason why a sovereign state would join a supranationalist org is primarily based on trade—FREE trade -govt wants people of its state to work more and trade more, etc. -every govt spends most of time thinking about how to grow economy -organizations based are trade are the ones that have exploded—more trade blocks than ever before and more states that have joined than ever before—primary reasons why world economy has grown -Free trade- eliminate as many barriers as possible between businesses and people of diff countries to trade with each other as openly as they can -free market capitalism and free trade go hand in hand -get govt regulation out of way of business so people can make the best products at the cheapest price.. because then the cheap prices get passed down to consumer. Then because its cheap so ppl will buy more What gets in the way of free trade?? -mostly government -protectionism: when a govt wants to protect the industries and businesses of their state at the expense of that of another state -two ways that a govt can protect its own industries (at expense of free trade) -put tariffs/taxes on imported goods -because countries are at war, but more often is to protect US industries -subsidies

-truly helping out local businesses- govt would help in monetary way at the expense of business in other country (mostly happens in agricultural sector)—literally just giving them money -pissess of poorer countries bc they do agriculture well but rich countries protect their agriculture so they put tariffs
