An interview with a local fireman took place in the 77318-zip code. His thoughts regarding the community’s health concerns were the amount of lower class and elderly people with morbid illnesses. Even though there are many doctor’s offices in town, the elderly have difficulty getting to their appointments and the lower class population cannot afford to seek health care. According to fireman B.K., handful of calls are received because the elderly have run out of their medication or they are not feeling well (personal communication July 1, 2019) B.K. thinks that many of the elderly don’t have family that they can rely on for help to get to their appointments. He says that many of the lower- class population call because they know they can receive services and know they don’t have to pay for it. Community’s Safety Issues According to Mr. B.K. a Willis fireman, the main safety issues for the community are the drivers who decide to drink and drive coming from local Lake Conroe outings (personal communications, July 1, 2019). He feels like more than 25% of the calls they receive are from accidents. Sadly, most of the outcomes are not very pleasant. Strengths of the Community Mr. B.K. spoke very highly of Willis. He himself was a proud resident and was born and raised in the community. He knew many of the local residents and spoke to them often. He described the community as a safe close-nit town with a big heart. 2.
