Location: Cherrapungi is just north of the Bay of Bengal and at 4309 feet (1293 meters) at the base of the Himalayas , it receives the full effect of India’s wet summer monsoon . Most of the record rainfall fell in the summer monsoon season, with July recording 366 inches (930 cm). This July rainfall was 10 times more rainfall than falls in the average year in Chicago.

c) Record annual snowfall : Mount Rainier, Washington State, USA 1122 inches (2850 cm) of snow fell on Mount Rainier during the winter of 1971-1972. Mount Baker, Washington State, USA (north of Seattle). 1140 inches (2896 cm) of snow fell on Mount Baker during the winter of 1998-1999. Mountain snow pack is a very important source of water in many parts of the western USA. When much of this snow melts in the spring, it fills reservoirs and provides much needed water supply for many areas that receive little or no rainfall during the summer and fall months.

3) Frontal Wedging Masses of warm and cold air collide , producing a front (an atmospheric discontinuity). The front is the leading edge of an advancing air mass. There is a line of conflict between the two air masses. Cooler, denser air acts as a barrier over which the warmer, less dense air rises . This is called frontal wedging and is important in producing clouds. But the stability of the air determines to a great extent, the type of clouds that form, and the amount of precipitation that may be expected.

Weather producing fronts are associated with storm systems called middle latitude cyclones or wave cyclones. Cyclones produce a high proportion of the precipitation that falls in the middle latitudes.

4) Convergence Convergence creates adiabatic cooling and cloud formation as air rises where air masses are flowing together.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
