In order to grab the market the companies had to create the digital platform (Flavian& Gurrea, 2006).3.Communication process:The print media format is not able to conducttwo way communication;whereas in online newspapers, the consumers can also give relevant feedback and share theirvaluable opinion (Skogerbø & Winsvold, 2011).4.Strong competition:In terms ofvalue propositionof the newspaper companies, they are almostidentical. In any industry, when companies tend to serve the consumers more or less in a similarmanner, the competition among the companies increases. As a result, if one company decides to goonline, the other companies also accelerate the pedal (Karimi & Walter, 2016).A survey report suggests that online customers may be more willing to pay for certain categories, suchas movies, sports, TV shows and music, andless likely to pay for news, blogs and videos produced by users(Ernst and Young, 2010). It is difficult when premium services cannot be activated because of the socio-economic culture of a country. In order to sustain in the digital platform, they need to create revenue. Sothey brought changes inpricing strategyand offering similar product toniche market, for example-Cost leadership:For their physical paper, they tend to charge the minimum based on themarketrate. Thus it becomes hard for the new companies to enter the market and the top Englishnewspapers of the countries are dominating the market (Fetscherin & Knolmayer, 2004).Focus low cost strategy:Applying this strategy in business, they offer similar products to a nichemarket with a low cost. For example, many newspapers are offering somespecialised servicebasedon career/lifestyle/education and so on. This particularservice is exclusive and its availabilitymayvary from monthly to yearly based on different organizations.Ad revenue:This is crucial of Bangladeshi newspapers as they do not have the premium versionof the online newspaper. So, other companiessponsor the newspaper companiesfrom whichrevenue is generated. As it was previously mentioned that the value proposition of the newspapercompanies are almost identical, they try to bring change in their content, presentation or app service.So,the better the service, the higher the number of companies are sponsoring. Thus theymaximizeprofitwith limited resources (Sridhar & Siam, 2015).
8 |P a g e6.0 POLICY RECOMMENDATIONIf we analyze the SWOT analysis for all the newspapers, we will be able to know that the newspaperindustry has a competitive advantage ofCost leadership; the recommendations for this industry are givenbelow:1.Putting web first and reporting from multiple platforms:English Newspapers in Bangladesh areoften still treating their websites as an afterthought because their advertising revenue is largely stillcoming from print. As the newspaper industry is solely focusing on mass market, the newspapersshoulduse multiple platformsfor reaching the readers; in that case, newspaper industry can attractinternational readers as well (
