well, what did not, and where I could improve. Also, formal reviews are very informative and helpful, and are given in a way that makes any criticism constructive.” • “The Mentoring Circles implemented by the firm are fantastic. But guidance directly with the people we are working with is completely lacking. I have never been asked ‘have you done anything like this before?’ and everyone seems to assume we all have. Though a few of the junior associates would be an exception and they are truly fantastic.” Career Outlook • “Promotion to partnership is certainly realistic. The firm promotes multiple associates in the New York office to the partnership each year. From what I have been told by both associates and partners, the process of making partner here is very transparent, so senior associates have a good idea of where they stand in the years leading up to when they would be eligible to make partner.” • “Promotion to partnership is difficult but possible. There are also other non-partner roles (such as counsel) to which senior associates can transition. Associates also leave to go in-house or move to other big law firms.” • “Promotion to partner is realistic in my group, but the path is unclear. Senior associates may be promoted to counsel, and several counsel have been promoted to partner. Associates who have left have gone to peer firms, smaller firms, and hedge funds.” • “I think partnership has become more realistic for many associates, particularly women. I also think there is more movement from counsel positions to partners than there has been in the past.” Pro Bono Commitment • “The firm is intensely proactive regarding pro bono work and consistently asks attorneys to pledge additional pro bono hours. We also have partnerships with great organizations such as Her Justice and the Legal Aid Society. I’ve worked on a number of criminal appeals, in both state and federal court, recently.”

Very easy for associates can bring in their own projects or join others. Partners supervise but are generally hands-off, so pro bono really gives associates a chance to run their own representations. Have worked on human rights matters relating to the Sri Lankan War, asylum cases for minors in El Salvador, recovering damages for spinal- cord injury victims, helping nonprofits with cybersecurity law, etc.” • “There are unlimited opportunities to become involved in pro-bono work, and a minimum of 20 hours per year. The type of work varies and entirely voluntary. There are amazing opportunities to work internationally, across many of the firm’s overseas offices. But, if you prefer, there are great opportunities to work locally as well. In the past few months, I have assisted legal aid groups to support homeless families improperly denied shelter accommodations, support NGOs with their corporate filings and support international NGOs in their overseas operations.”

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
