I also expected to work less at home, and more at the Volunteer Income TaxAssistant program. Since there have been 90 accepted returns already this year though the program, myself and the few other interns have kept busy with quality reviews at home, and even some income tax returns that can be completed from home if the client is not available to physically come in to the program. One other position title I possess with this internship is a quality reviewer. This means I can review anyones completed tax return that they have completed through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistant Program. Many students who complete income taxes through this program are either members of Beta Alpha Psi or in Taxation 1. The only individuals who can be quality reviewers are the Volunteer Income Tax Assistant Interns. This part of my internship I am usually able to do from home, unless the clients are physically present at the program. This also helps me reach my one hundred fifty-hour requirement for my internship. As an intern, I was also required to receive many certifications. Many ofthese certifications were also required by the Taxation 1 students, and anyone else who was going to be participating in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistant program. One such certification is the advanced certification. I, however, did need to get another certification required only for interns,
which was the Health Savings Account certification. This certification allows me to work with clients who have had a health savings account in 2017. If a preparer does not have this certification they may not be able to finish their clients return if they have had a health savings account. To wrap this up, I have enjoyed and am enjoying my internship experience through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistant program so far. I have gained knowledge that cannot easily be taught in a classroom and havegiven me real world experience. I look forward in continuing this internship inits entirety.
