DeMatto 3 Next I turned my Google searches towards the attention of the MTV show “Jersey Shore.” One of the characters Mike, who is commonly referred to as “the situation,” brings about the feministic qualities in males. Over the past decade tanning has always been centered on women. As males view this ad they are shortly led to the conclusion that this guy has to be “gay.” Similarly Bordo emphasizes the use of homosexuality displayed in her ads as well. She particularly uses the Calvin Klein ad to stress “the beginning of a new era for the unabashed erotic display of the male body” (Bordo 200). Although it gives off the notion to be “homosexual”, the situation portrays to society that yes it is okay for males to tan as well. Other than selling to society that men can tan as well, Mike the situation also reveals his masculine side through his own DVD of how to gain rock hard abs.
