MANAGING MULTICULTURAL POJECT TEAMS 3 business practices and teamwork. The authors assert that effective team management is critical to keeping the project and teams on schedule and task by leveraging diversity to influence the team management process. The article further highlights the various stages of group dynamics; forming, storming, norming, and performing. The author’s assert that in a multicultural composition, the storming and norming stages are most important as cultural diversity adds new obstacles to the process . [Sca14] . As important as both stages presented by the authors, is the evolution of the team’s leadership. The leader’s ability to define boundaries, roles and relationships at the earliest opportunity will help shape the trajectory of the project team. The management of diversity is not an easy task and can be directly linked to effective communication. How well a leader can effectively communicate can determine the success of project teams. Therefore, it is the leader’s responsibility to clearly articulate the direction of the team, establish common language and understanding the impact to which multiculturalism plays in the organization or project task. Conclusion Overall, the article does not thoroughly test hypothesis or influences. Although the contents of the article is valid, in that challenges do exist in the management of multicultural product teams, the authors did not present measurable data that would confirm their problem statement. Despite the article assessing multiculturalism in IT and TA environment, the overall article does address management of multicultural project teams which can be applied across a wide array of projects. Although there is no universal solution for managing diversity and multiculturalism, we learn how team managers could achieved better performance by reducing cultural clashes, misunderstanding and conflicts.
